Service sheet for 25th September

The Christian Community of St Giles-on-the-Hill

welcomes you to worship with them on

Sunday 25th September 2016

Eighteenth Sunday after Trinity

We come together to worship God and give thanks for all the gifts we have received. As we pray together let us think about God’s generosity and ask how we can be generous with what we have been given.

We welcome the family and friends of Fraser Ivo Baulcombe as he is baptised this morning and welcomed into God’s family. We pray for him, Cherry and Ralph on this very splendid occasion. As a sign of the unity of all Christians baptism is a bond with Jesus Christ, the foundation of this unity.

We also welcome to St Giles today our charity speaker, Rosemary Barry, from the Children’s Society.

10.30am Sung Eucharist The service is set out in the white service booklet. The collect and readings are to be found overleaf. Hymns are from the New English Hymnal. During the procession to the font the choir will sing ‘Water of life, cleanse and refresh us’ from the Celebration Hymnal.

Many thanks to all who kept the church open for the Heritage Open Days and NCT Cycle Ride. We had 462 visitors (542 in 2015) and £129.50 was raised for our church funds (£219.19 in 2015) from money in the collection box. We had lots of lovely comments about the beauty of our church, “a place of quiet” and “a sense of prayer” are just some of the encouraging comments left. Kate Baldry walked around Norwich churches and raised £68.75 in sponsorship, half of this will go to St Giles.

The Interesting Talks and Film Club have raised £96.71 (Film Club) and £119.60 (Interesting Talks) making a wonderful total of £216.31 towards church funds. Many thanks to Carole Hill, Annie Blyth and Raymond Scott for all their hard work in organising these enjoyable evenings.

Copies of The Magazine for September/October,published by the Diocese, are available for you to collect from the back of church. The Diocesan Prayer Calendar is included which we are encouraged to use every day as part of our prayers.

The next opportunity for confirmation will be at the Cathedral in November. If you haven’t been confirmed and are interested then please do have a chat with the Rector, who will be leading confirmation classes this autumn.

Our Parish Share next year will be £30,503, which is £3373 more than this year. Could you please consider prayerfully how you can increase your giving in 2017 to help us meet our payments at the new level? This increase should be the last of the big annual percentage increases under TRIO. Thank you very much indeed to everyone whose generosity has helped us to keep pace with the steep Parish Share increases of the last few years. John Baldry, PCC Treasurer.

Do you have a recommendation for a charity that you would like the St Giles PCC to consider supporting next year? If so, please write it on the list at the back of church with your name by your request so that PCC members can ask you for more information should they require it.
