The Christian Community of St Giles-on-the-Hill
welcomes you to worship with them on
Sunday 6th January 2019
Wise men travelled many miles to meet with God, and recognised God when they found baby Jesus. In this New Year let us determine to journey onwards towards God, and let us pray that we too will recognise God when we meet him.
“Let us run with the stars and offer gifts with the Magi…with shepherds let us glorify Him, with angels sing hymns, with archangels join in chorus…let us travel through the life of Christ that we may be born afresh in Him.” St Gregory Nazianzen
Today’s Mass includes the Ministry of Healing, with the anointing of oil. If you wish to receive healing for yourself or for a loved one then please go and sit in the Lady Chapel during the organ voluntary at the end of the Mass.
The Speaker today is Parish Ordinand Annie Blyth.
Please do join us for a celebratory glass of wine after the Mass.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! As we begin this new year we come with thanksgiving for all that has gone before and with expectation of what is to come. As we travel together through the church year Christ’s story becomes part of ours. HAPPY 2019!
Our 2019 motto text is: “I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3.18-19
Today there will be a procession around the church during the first hymn, as we reflect on the journey of the Wise Men. Then the figures will be brought to the crib to make the Christmas story and our crib complete.
St Giles Parish Calendar – Please do take your copy and transfer the dates into your diary.
A big thank you to all those who kindly gave me a Christmas gift. Your kindness is very much appreciated. Fr Darren.
The Film Club will be in church this Friday, 11th January at 7.30pm. Further details on the railings outside church as usual – always a most enjoyable evening, with a good film and good company!
Our January Charity is the Templar Pilgrimage Trust. If you would like to make a personal donation (gift-aided if possible) then do please put it in the box on the table by the Charities board.
“The Magazine” for January and February is available, free, at the back of church for you to take home.
Salvation Army Pottergate ARC – please do keep bringing in donations of tins and packets and place them in the box in the Tower Vestry. Many thanks to Elsie and David for organising this.
Any donations of wine for consumption at church events would be most gratefully received by the Churchwardens. Thank you very much!
For those of you who are new to St Giles and consider your membership to be here, we would like to welcome you into our family. Please do consider signing up to our Church Electoral Roll (see Carole Hill). We also have a scheme for regular giving (see our Treasurer, John Baldry).
For your reflection – for Christians the new year becomes like the clean sheet of writing paper for the writer, the clean empty canvas for the artist and the open road for the traveller: because in 2019 we have a Christ-like story to write, a Christian picture to paint and a Saviour to follow into the future.
