Pentecost

On this day of Pentecost, as we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit, let us rejoice that, through Jesus, God is within us and we are held within God’s strong arms.

The Easter candle has remained in the Sanctuary until Pentecost Sunday, marking the fifty days of the Easter season which cover the Resurrection appearances. The candle has a prominent place, reminding us that Christ is the light of the world and that, in that light, Jesus is alive today.

There will be a celebratory glass of wine at the end of the Mass.

Traidcraft –do visit the Stall today and stock up! After that the next Traidcraft stall will be on Sunday 14th July.
Pentecost Sunday marks for us the end of the fifty days of resurrection appearances that we have been hearing about each week in the gospel readings. At the end of this morning’s gospel the Easter candle is extinguished and returns to its position by the font. We now put our focus on the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, empowering people’s lives with the new life of the risen Jesus, with joy, peace and love. Do look out for those who have remembered to wear something red today, symbolising the tongues of flame coming upon the people of God. Happy Pentecost!
Next Sunday we welcome back the St Giles Singers for Trinity Sunday. They will be singing: Thorne – Mass of St Thomas; Choral Introit: Schubert – Holy, Holy, Holy; Communion Anthem: Faure – Cantique de Jean Racine.
Corpus Christi, a day of thanksgiving for the sacrament of Holy Communion, is on Thursday 20 June. The city churches have been invited to join the Cathedral for a Sung Mass at 6.00pm. All are welcome.
Norfolk Day Elsie will be running a Coffee Morning at St Giles on Saturday 27 July from 10.00am to 1.00pm in aid of St Giles Church. Further information will be given in a future newsletter – please mark the date on your calendar!
Our June Charity is Save the Children Fund. Do take a look at the display on the charities notice board for details. The PCC gives a donation to our chosen charity on behalf of us all. If you would like to make a personal donation then do please put it in the box on the table by the display board. If you are able to gift aid your donation this adds 25% at no further cost to you.
Please do keep bringing in donations of tins and packets and place them in the box in the tower vestry. They will now go to West Pottergate residents and others in need who call at the Rectory. Please bring in soup, beans, tuna, sandwich tinned meats, packet rice and biscuits. Tinned foods are all useful so families can prepare or supplement a meal. No fresh food please.
The sick list If you are adding names to the sick list for our intercessions (via Elsie) please can you also tell us when they can be taken off. If not, the list gets too long. Thank you.
Church open St Giles is open for visitors and pilgrims on Tuesday all day, Wednesday mornings, Friday mornings and Saturday lunchtime. Pray for all who visit our sacred space that they will meet with God.
