The Christian Community of St Giles-on-the-Hill
welcomes you to worship with them on
Sunday 1st September 2019
St Giles Day
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news; he has sent me to proclaim release to the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.
Our Preacher today is Fr David Roper.
The hymns, collect, psalm and readings for today’s Mass are all set out in the white Patronal Mass service sheet. Hymns are from the Celebration Hymnal. The Mass today includes the blessing of herbs to symbolise that St Giles lived on herbs whilst living in the wilderness. Please do take some herbs home and make something beautiful from them to share with someone else.
The organ voluntary concluding the Mass today is Widor’s Toccata.
There is a celebratory glass of wine after Mass, and a fun auction to help raise some funds for the church, further to yesterday’s fete. We hope the auction will be a bit of fun, and you might even pick up a bargain! In the Churchwardens’ notices we shall tell you how much was raised yesterday.

Our Parish Share next year will be £32,815. This means that we shall be paying a further £566, an increase of 1.75% over our 2019 Parish Share. Please can I ask you all to consider prayerfully how you can increase your giving next year so that between us we can manage to cover this increase? Thank you! John Baldry
Have you ever thought about seeing a spiritual director? To journey with someone offering you spiritual direction? The Diocese offers such support and guidance as we seek to grow in our Christian discipleship. Details about spiritual direction can be found on the Diocesan website or by contacting the Revd Canon Andy Bryant at the Cathedral.
Newsletter via email – would you like to receive this as soon as it is produced? It can be easily set up on the church website. Click on the FOLLOW box at the bottom of the page and enter your details. You will now get the newsletter by email each week. Any problems – please speak to John Baldry.
