Harvest Festival

Harvest means sharing blessings. Harvest Festival is a time to give thanks to God for his generosity in providing for our needs and also a time to remember those who are poor and hungry and those whose harvest has not been so good.

Today’s Harvest offering will support those who call at the Rectory who are vulnerable.

Please do join us for a celebratory glass of wine after the Mass.

Thanks to everyone who has decorated our church so beautifully for Harvest Festival today. Do stay after Mass for the Bring-and-Share Harvest Lunch: all are very welcome! Many thanks to those who have brought food along.
The total raised by the fete and auction this year is a record-breaking £2078.85! Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to achieve this result which provides a much-needed boost to church funds.
Ron Daniels Fr Darren has recently been to visit Ron who is in a Care Home in Great Yarmouth. Ron passes on his best wishes to all at St Giles.

The Magazine The Autumn Edition, which has the theme of poverty, is now available for you at the back of church. Do take a copy home to read.
Thanks to those who kept the church open for the Heritage Open Days and the Norfolk Churches Trust Annual Cycle Ride and Walk. We have had lots of visitors and some lovely comments.
Heritage Open Days officially run from 13-22 September. It is hoped that those who have volunteered to keep the church open may be able to offer some extra opening opportunities during this extended period. Please sign the Churchwardens diary to indicate when you may be able to open the church. Thank you!
Our September Charity is the John Aves Education Project. See the display on the charities notice board for more details. If you would like to make a personal donation to add to that which the PCC gives, then please put your donation in the box on the table by the charities board (gift aided if possible).
Date for the diary Fr Darren has been invited to preach at the Cathedral on Sunday 8 December at 3.30pm. The Dean has invited all from St Giles for tea and cake in the Refectory following the service. You are warmly invited.
Our Parish Share next year will be £32,815, a further £566, an increase of 1.75% over our 2019 Parish Share. Please can I ask you all to consider prayerfully how you can increase your giving next year so that between us we can manage to cover this increase? Thank you! John Baldry
Confirmation The next opportunity for Confirmation will be at Norwich Cathedral in November. If you haven’t been confirmed and are interested then please do have a chat with the Rector, who will be leading confirmation classes this Autumn.
St Giles Luncheon Club “Well what was that all about?” A new St Giles Project! On the first Sunday of the month, starting 6 October, you are invited to have your lunch at the Coach and Horses in Bethel St. This is not a Parish Lunch, but rather an informal gathering of any who want to go out and enjoy some company (no need to book, pay on arrival, away by 2pm). After the meal we shall have some discussion about what we learnt from the sermon, some sharing of ideas and thoughts. Fr Darren will be in attendance. It is hoped that this will allow us to get to know each other better, especially those who live alone.

For spiritual reflection…..Before we can serve God in the world we need to spend time with God and be resourced by him.
