The Christian Community of St Giles-on-the-Hill
welcomes you to worship with them on
Sunday 29th September 2019
Michael and All Angels
In our worship today we lift up our eyes to all that is beyond our horizons, to the company of heaven’s angels around us. Today we are reminded that we are both spiritual and earthly beings, and that in the midst of our daily lives, the difficulties and joys, we share the invitation to journey towards the coming kingdom of God.
We welcome back Ann Aves, our Charity Speaker, to update us on the Fr John Aves Holy Land projects.

Our September Charity is the John Aves Education Project. See the display on the Charities notice board for more details. If you would like to make a personal donation to add to that which the PCC gives, then please put your donation in the box on the table by the Charities board (gift aided if possible).
Do you have a recommendation for a charity that you would like the St Giles PCC to consider supporting next year? If so, please write it on the list at the back of church with your name by your request so that PCC members can ask you for more information if they require it.
Bible Studies The daytime group will meet on Monday 7th October at 10.30am. The study of the twelve disciples will continue and when completed, the group will start to look at St Matthew’s Gospel. If you are interested in joining please chat to Jen or contact her by email: Jennifermgerrard@aol.com or on 07917 756626. The evening group will next meet on Tuesday 8th October at 7.30pm at 37 Havelock Road. We shall be continuing our study of 1 Corinthians at chapter 11. Further details from Karen Kiddell.
Date for the diary Fr Darren has been invited to preach at the Cathedral on Sunday 8 December at 3.30pm. The Dean has invited all from St Giles for tea and cake in the Refectory following the service. You are warmly invited.
Our Parish Share next year will be £32,815, a further £566, an increase of 1.75% over our 2019 Parish Share. Please can I ask you all to consider prayerfully how you can increase your giving next year so that between us we can manage to cover this increase? Thank you! John Baldry
Gift Aid envelopes If you donate frequently to the offertory at St Giles you can have a set of buff envelopes on which you are identified by a personal number. This maintains confidentiality and means that you don’t have to fill in an envelope whenever you gift aid. Our Treasurer, John Baldry, can provide you with a set of personal envelopes on request.
Any donations of wine for consumption at church events would be most gratefully received by the Churchwardens. Please do bring them in. Thank you very much!
Confirmation The next opportunity for Confirmation will be at Norwich Cathedral in November. If you haven’t been confirmed and are interested then please do have a chat with the Rector, who will be leading confirmation classes this Autumn.
St Giles Luncheon Club “Well what was that all about?” A new St Giles Project! On the first Sunday of the month (starting 6th October) you are invited to have your lunch at the Coach and Horses on Bethel Street. Pay on arrival (no big bill to split at the end), very informal, no need to book (just pitch up and hope we can get tables close together), away by 2pm. After the meal we shall have some discussion about what we learnt from the sermon, some sharing of ideas and thoughts. This is not a Parish Lunch, rather an informal gathering of any who want to go out for lunch and enjoy some company. Fr Darren will be in attendance. It is hoped that this project will allow us to get to know each other better, especially those who live alone.
For spiritual reflection…..Before we can serve God in the world we need to spend time with God and be resourced by him.
